Heading home. @ 07:31 amCurrent Mood: exhausted
This year's Dragon*Con was very much Dragon*Con in all of its usual indescribableness. :)
We are driving back with the family and the FIL wants to leave here by 8AM so I'm hoping to be home by around 6PM.
Not going to promise a report or anything because we all know how much shite I am at following through on those. I will post a little something about who I saw and such but that's all I'll guarantee.
See you all when I'm in my own comfy home.

Gah. @ 08:52 amCurrent Mood: lethargic
So much to do today to get ready for Dragon*Con. *runs around pulling hair* I think I make nearly this same post every year at this time.
I have laundry to do, packing lists to make, the actual packing, my schedule to finish, garbage to gather and put out, dishes to wash and I have to go to the bank.
Plus I only slept 3 hours last night and I could really use a nap.

Hi @ 01:46 pmCurrent Mood: exhausted
I had a surprisingly good evening at work last night at the end of a surprisingly good weekend. Especially since it was the end of the second of back-to-back 16 hour shifts. Definitely could have been much worse.
I spent much of the day thinking about the fact that I leave for Dragon*Con in three days. Ugh. I haven't even thought about what to pack or what I want to get signed, haven't planned out the whole trip to within an inch of it's life as usual. Things never go according to plan but that doesn't stop me from trying. It comforts me.
Speaking of which, the kid and I are going to be doing our annual dinner and pin run at the Hard Rock Cafe. We're aiming for around 10PM, after we get done with our touristy stuff for the day and pick up our con badges. Anyone who is around at that time is welcome to join us.
I thought I had more to say but I really need to get ready to go back to work.

Money, blah. @ 09:07 pmCurrent Mood: contemplative
Tomorrow begins a rather horrific series of days at work. I work the next 8 days including 1 day shift, 4 evening shifts and 4 sixteen hour double shifts. Then I have two days off and go back for double, evening, double, evening, off, evening.
All of this in an effort to get some extra cash for Dragon*Con. I also need to come up with the cash to put down a deposit on a cruise for Spring Break next year. Then there is the fact that the kid's birthday is in just over a month and I have to have money for that. Jeez. Life is fucking expensive. Eh, well, what are you gonna do?

Why can't traveling ever be easy for me? @ 09:19 amCurrent Mood: annoyed
So this trip is off to a raging good start. /sarcasm :P
We left the house on time. We got to the airport in Charleston on time. We boarded and took off on time. That was all great. We even landed on time in Charlotte.
From there things started to go bad. We deplaned in E concourse, walked to C concourse where our connecting flight was supposed to be. I say supposed to be because when we arrived at our gate we found out that our Atlanta flight had been canceled. Not delayed. Canceled. Every other US Air flight was booked solid. So were the Delta flights. They discussed several options including sending us to either Philadelphia or Washington DC and then on to Atlanta from there. Ugh. That made no sense and was probably going to end up getting us into Atlanta in the late afternoon. Fortunately that didn't have to happen.
The lovely lady at the desk ended up getting us on an Air Tran flight that was leaving a little over an hour later than our original connection. Hallelujah! We have a very tight schedule so this is going to throw us off a bit but if this flight leaves on time and things go well from there we should be able to recover with only a few alterations to the plan.
As I type this we are sitting by our gate waiting... and waiting...

Dragon*Con, Atlanta and such things. @ 02:57 amCurrent Mood: busy
I'm off work today for the packing and pre-con "last minute running around" routine. We (the kid and I) will be leaving pre-crack early Thursday morning to head to the airport in Charleston. Our flight leaves at 6:09AM so if anyone is up and about around that time some "good flight" vibes would be muchly appreciated about then.
I'll have Serenity (the new laptop) with me on the trip so I'll be able to keep up with everyone while I'm there. If anyone wants to make any last minute plans to meet up I'll be checking in at least daily after Thursday. Our schedule is fairly tight.
Now I have some comments and emails to return and then I'll be trying to get caught up on the flist in between doing laundry and the like.

Hi there. @ 06:45 pmCurrent Mood: mellow
Posting from the loverly wifi at work again. Haven't been around much lately. Been trying to pick up as much overtime as possible lately for the ever expensive trip to Dragon*Con. I worked 60 hours over 7 days last week then had two off.
On the home front, I can't get the damned router that I bought to work. All of the lights come on, including the internet light, but the set up program keeps saying that the router can't connect to the internet. Bugger.
This time next week I'll be in Atlanta. We have ass loads of stuff that we're going to try to do while we're down there. I am planning to brave MARTA for the first time. You all know how I feel about strange public transportation systems! Ugh.
Anyone want to hook up with me and the kid to do anything before, during or after the con? We'll be there from about 11AM on Thursday the 30th until about 5PM on Tuesday Sept 5th. We have plans to go to dinner at the Hard Rock on Thursday at about 8:30-ish.
Anyone read any newish good, long, complete H/D fics lately. Preferably including some h/c and/or angst but with a happy ending. Hell, they don't even have to all that new. I just haven't read much lately and I've got the day off tomorrow.
Well, I have to go do some work now. |
